Thoughts and comments on the video – “Mind Your Language” and the song

Thoughts and comments on the video – “Mind Your Language”

Well this show shows that how can the people from different societies, nationalities and beliefs live together under one roof and trying to learn English. After all it’s a good show and tells us about the cultural diversity in England before 35 years. And I like the teacher and his role to trying to create a good environment for learning out of hatred between some cultures.

My comments about the song

First of all, this song is called “Where is the love” from the American famous hip hop band “Black Eyed Peas”. Its great song and great lyrics that ever written about the problems that we faced now such as racism and discriminate and where is the love that can unite people and lift themselves out of the quagmire of hatred.
And I found a song that talking about stop racism from the American hip hop artist Tony D and here is the lyrics:
[Tony D]
Style within yes, there is no goal too grim
I teach the way yo, to match the color of my skin
So get it right y'all, my family had to organize
Comin over on a boat you see they had to realize
that they were one yes, in a nation of so many
Nationalities of people, knowledge we had plenty
as an equal, but still some considered us an outcast
Names like guinea and wop, is what was used in the past
to describe us nonetheless we kept our head up
Knowin in the future we shall all drink from the same cup
Unity is what I'm strivin for G, so let it be
Ebony and ivory in our community in harmony
Livin, perfectly together as a whole
From the bottom of South Africa to the North Pole
When I look at a human you can say I'm color blind
Cause I see them with my eyes but I judge them with my mind
Stop racism

[Tony D]
Hardheaded individuals say media blow up
is the cause of all racism, it's mentally throw up
So grow up and learn that the problem exists
Like Markie said, we gotta unball our fists
and put away the bats and throw away the knives
and get rid of the guns, that can hurt the lives
of our children, you see I pray for the future
It was once quoted, to let knowledge uproot ya
To build as one, and elevate and keep climbin
Stop racism, the cause that I'm rhymin
I can't wait for the twenty-first century
It's gotta happen now, cause that's the way it's meant to be
But you say how, can we do this you gotta put your mind to it
(From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/t/tony-d-lyrics/stop-racism-lyrics.html)
And know like Bo and just run right through it
My conclusion to the topic will be racism MUST end
Apartheid you're THROUGH with the message I send
Stop racism

[Tony D]
There's a handful of people I'm unable to reach
It's like tryin to find a certain grain of sand on the beach
A few friends of mine said it's a worthless cause
Like Run-D.M.C., it'll only "Pause"
and keep goin, some people will remain prejudiced
It's my job to make 'em see through the fog in their midst
Would it suffice this is the church, and this is the steeple
There's many religions, but there's only two people
That's man and woman, and woman and man
And if I can I'ma make 'em understand
That twenty years after Martin Luther King
It's still the same 'ol thing
We fed the world, and saved the farms
We even greeted the homeless with open arms
But when it comes to racism and apartheid
The people run away and try to hide
That's not the answer, the problem can be solved by you
I'm doin mine, now what you gonna do?
Stop racism

[Tony D]
Yo, the message I send is racism MUST end
Not only in South Africa but here in the U.S.
and everywhere else in the country in the world
on the planet for that matter y'knahmsayin?
Blacks and whites, reds, greens, yellows, oranges
Everybody must live, AS ONE, as man is supposed to be
And from Tony D, I'm outta here, harmony for the 90'

I think that music can help to unite people because everyone listening to music and some of us listening to music from another cultures so we can send a good message to stop racism and negative discrimination and love each other.

Reflective Essay 3

Reflective Essay 3
Stereotyping, Prejudice and Discrimination

In our life we faced a lot of problems and challenges that make us think for a while about how we can skip of this issue and get the experience of how to deal with these problems that we see it in life. And when the world is getting bigger and huge we can see the differences between people and their culture and we don’t know about them a lot and that causes problems. The problems that we face know in our world is stereotype, prejudice and discrimination and we are going to explain them each one in this essay.

Firstly, the definition of stereotype is a judgment that comes from the image of the people and trying to destroy it. We can find the stereotype in the mass media and the effect of the stereotype is huge because it gives the incomplete image of group of people or group of nation. And the example of stereotype is when we say “All people who has long beard are dangerous and terrorists.

Secondly, prejudices in the past are the prejudgment of the people based on the ethnic. But this term has been change now and it becomes more than just ethnic and inserts all the prejudgment that based on fear and ignoring. One of the examples is when people of one nation said something based on hate of another nation because of wars between these two nations.

Thirdly, discrimination is the behavior or action and the treatment of people that based on age, color of the skin, sex, and religion. Discrimination has a positive side but the negative side is the most and the huge that people when they read about discrimination they think about the negative side. Well as we can see that discrimination is based on stereotype and prejudice, because if we fundamentally goes through this word we can find that every discrimination has a stereotype of generalize and the prejudice of the pre judgment on people.

In conclusion, I think that we can find the solution of stereotype; prejudice and discrimination by understand each other and make our own judge based on how we know people and stop listen to the mass media.

Course Goal 1 Revision

LSS 2053 Course Goal 1 Revision
Answer the following revision questions in paragraphs of about 50 words each. In your answers you should use examples from your own experience where possible.

1.       Which types of Cultural Diversity exist at ADMC? Give an example from each of the ten categories in your table of ten. Say whether each one is a Challenge or a Benefit.

As any college or university in the world, there`s huge cultural diversity in my college. For example, there`s a religion diversity in the college such as Islam, Christian and Hindu. And I can see this diversity in my teachers, at the library and at the rest area and I think it`s one of the benefits of cultural diversity. Also in the college there are many languages that I can hear around me. Of course my first language Arabic that I and my friends speaking, English is the most language that spoken in my college and a little Hindi. Sometimes the language is a big challenge because it`s hard to connect with other people that you don’t understand it.
Another cultural diversity in the ADMC is cloths. I can see this in the class, library and the rest area. Some of them wearing Kandora , and some of them T-shirt and jeans. It’s one of the benefits to know each culture and their cloths.

2.       Define and give an example of Acculturation.
It`s to get information and ideas from other culture and try to applied it in our culture. One of the examples of Acculturation is food. Some of the cultures take some types of food from other countries. Like Arabs took spicy foods from India.

3.       Explain how child-raising in different cultures can have an effect on personality.

Well, if we accustomed the child on some behavior, he will take this behavior and will be a part of his personality that is under formation. For example as we know that Arabs and their environment are famous of angry and over reacting, so it`s easy to effect on the child and make them like the environment. And I can see this example in my family between my father and my brother.

Explain the difference between a “melting pot” and a “garden salad” related to immigration to a country such as UK, USA, Australia for example

Melting pot is like have all the ethnic groups together under the umbrella of citizenship.
The best example of melting pot is in the 18th century in the USA, they put every group that came from other country and forget everything from their old culture.
Garden salad is to separates every ethnic group with all their culture from the community and make for them towns.
And the best example of garden salad is China town in San Francisco.

Also it can be positive in the work place, schools, universities and Places vital.
I can see the improvement in schools on students. They can learn new languages and new positive things like reading for example.
